Duncan Bucknell’s IP Thinktank Blog has an interesting post that summarizes several emerging and established business models for turning intellectual property into revenues.  The list of established business models runs the gamut from patent licensing and enforcement companies (PLECs) to IP-based M&A advisory businesses.  Emerging models include defensive patent pools such as the newly-announced Open Patent Alliance, along with IP/stock market hybrids such as IP transaction exchanges and patent-based stock indexes.

The list is a summary of a detailed article by Raymond Millien (of PCT Capital, LLC) and Ron Laurie (of Inflexion Point Strategy, LLC).  The full article, published at VCExperts, also includes several examples of companies that are implementing each of the business models.
